Health

The Foundation dedicates approximately 27% of its annual funding to health organizations in the region (allocation will vary slightly year to year, as we respond to each year’s requests). Preference will be given to those organizations whose programs serve a disadvantaged or underserved population.

Sample recipients for 2010:

Chester County Community Dental Center, located in Coatesville, was established in 2002 by a group of dedicated and concerned professionals in response to the critical need for dental services and prevention education for at-risk families in Chester County. Funding will provide vital dental services for more than 210 at-risk, low-income children living in Chester County.

The Clinic, located in Phoenixville, provides quality health care to the uninsured, in an atmosphere which fosters dignity and respect for their patients. Since 2002, they have treated more than 55,000 patients. They have over 140 volunteers, who are the heart of their organization, who regularly provide over 16,000 hours of medical and clerical services each year. Funding will provide general operating support.

Siloam, located in Philadelphia, was founded in 1995 to provide wellness support and educational and wellness programming to people infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS. It provides a broad range of integrative mind/body/spirit services that empowers them to develop skills and personal strengths leading to more meaningful lives. Funding will support their Nutrition for Life program. For those living with AIDS, nutritional therapy is part of a medical management plan for the disease. The goals of the program include providing basic information about good nutrition, instruction on nutrition and medical conditions, including hepatitis, diabetes, and heart disease, and the nutritional solutions to the side effects of HIV medications.
